Beautiful & bold bathroom trends

Many people consider their bathroom to be their sanctuary. It’s a personal space that should reflect your unique style and offer you a welcoming space in which to unwind and de-stress. The design gurus at Italtile Umhlanga share some tips and trends for bathrooms this year.

Bathroom trends for 2017:
Design: More and more customers are experimenting with interesting décor pieces and splash back walls to create excitement and interest in their bathroom areas. We’ve also seen a huge increase in ‘his and hers’ areas within the bathroom, with homeowners buying two basins and two mirrors. The Subway Tile was huge last year, with people purchasing coloured and different textured Subway Tiles as opposed to the traditional black and white, and we don’t see this slacking in 2017.

Colours: There is a huge move towards mixing colours and being more adventurous in bathrooms. Copper and rose gold were big hits last year and we are looking forward to seeing how this carries through to the year ahead.

Taps and finishes: Again, copper, bronze and rose gold are very popular. We do see a lot of people shifting their focus to water-saving finishes and this seems to be important to many people. The Tivoli range is great for this.

Bath trends: Free standing baths are definitely the trend at the moment. Matt also seems to be more popular than the polished finish, depending on the look the homeowners is trying to achieve.

Flooring: Customers want their bathrooms to look bigger and a great way to achieve this is to use a slip-resistant wall and floor tiles that blend seamlessly. We have seen a lot of interest in textured tiles. Mosaics or waterjet cutting of the same tile you’ve used on the floors are great for showers, but remember to use waterproof grouting. Shower channels also add a nice finish to your shower area.
