Magical line-up for Invited Designer Showcase
|Making a return to eight-strong stellar showcase line-up are Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit, the men behind the label Kluk CGDT, and the popular Durban based star Terrence Bray. Gauteng based Hangwani Nengovhela, the force behind the label Rubicon, makes a popular return alongside the debut of the exciting Thula Sindi.
Five of the eight are from the host province KwaZulu-Natal, with Bray being joined in the non-competitive show by the returning design duo of Dale McCarthy and Jane Wolff, the respected Sibu Msimang, and the rising stars Sadie Bosworth Smith and Mxolisi Mkhize, whose label House of St Luke is turning heads.
“I am thrilled with the line-up this year, it is one of the strongest ever,” said the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Programme co-ordinator Tiffany Prior.
“There are some internationally celebrated designers in the line-up and I am confident that the newbies will be very strong as well,” she added.
“It is great to have Malcolm (Kluk) and Christiaan (Gabriel du Toit) back after quite a few years. Malcolm is a Durban-raised guy and is quite excited for the Showcase this year.
“I have been harassing Thula Sindi for years, and I am thrilled that he has agreed to join the line-up this year,” said Prior.
“Terrence Bray will do what he always does and knock our socks off. He loves the creative latitude that the Invited Designer Showcase affords the designers, and I can’t wait to see his take on the theme “the Colour Of Magic”.
“Jane (Wolff) and Dale (McCarthy) wowed everyone in 2015, and as two younger designers who have come through the ranks of Durban student fashion and the Vodacom Durban July programme, they add so much value,” she added.
“Mxolisi Mkhize caused quite a stir at SA Fashion week, and as another product of the partnership with the Durban Fashion Fair, will be one to watch.
“Sibu Msimang is a pillar of the fashion design industry, and I know that we can expect something exceptional for her,” Prior said.
“Another of the Durban designers who has rocketed through the ranks is Sadie Bosworth Smith,” said Prior. “She was the winner of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award and fully deserves her spot in the line-up as what she has done since then has been extraordinary.”
The eight chosen teams will produce a raceday ensemble that will be seen for the first time at the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Showcase evenings at Greyville Racecourse on 13 and 15 June.
