Growth and Development

It was particularly apt that the final day of August (Women’s month)  saw two top lady speakers, Gaelene Risk (a Trauma Counsellor) and Catherine van Heerden (Founder of Thinking Dynamics) hold the floor at the monthly Durban Entrepreneurs Club (DEC) meeting that was held at the Durban Country Club and attended by Entrepreneurs from around KZN.

Before introducing the speakers, Founder of the club, Grant Gavin explained that the DEC was formed as a platform for entrepreneurs to network, share ideas and build relations. The Club, that started off with a handful of members in November 2015, has grown from strength to strength and now has 150 members, and is still growing.  Some high powered speakers have been fielded by Grant and his committee over the months, all with a different message on how to help budding and well established entrepreneurs to grow their business.

Gaelene who has become a well respected authority on trauma recovery, explained that personal affirmations were a huge step in the right direction for recovery “it’s all about beginning a new Chapter, with a stronger, braver you.  You are the strength in who you choose to become!  Encourage yourself every single day by writing down and repeating strong self affirmations”  she explained.

Catherine van Heerden, who travelled from Gauteng to give her talk, is a well known speaker, psychologist, facilitator and author – and part time pilot!  She gave an amusing, but thoughtfully presented analogy between the preparation and baking of a cupcake – and hatching and encouraging the growth of ones business.  “We are busy constructing our future selves, and we need to be able to look back on our lives when we reach our nineties to see that we have not lost a single minute. We do not want any regrets, let’s make every second count!”

The next DEC event will be held at the Durban Country Club on Thursday, September 21 with Tech Innovator and Serial Entrepreneur, Darlene Menzies as Guest speaker.  Visit to book your spot.
