Reflecting her own personal sense of style, Natasha says her garments are all items that she would wear herself – hence the name of her label, ‘Tasha’s Closet’. Casual, comfortable and easy-to-wear, Tasha’s Closet is a proudly South African, exclusive ladieswear brand made with peace, love and palm trees in mind.
“My label is all about island hippie styles that can be worn casually during the day as well as dressed up and transformed into stylish ensembles for nights on the town,” says Natasha.
With the use of bold prints and not so complicated silhouettes, Natasha tries to let the fabric speak for itself, making the garment interesting and different yet comfortable, stylish and easy to wear.
“I love the idea of just being able to throw something on and still looking great. I believe I have created a brand for women of all ages, from early twenties to the more mature lady, who is looking for something playful yet sexy to wear.”
Inspired by the fabrics that she works with, Natasha likes to visualise the style of garment she could see in the fabric and then just runs wild with the ideas.
“My latest collection is called ‘Tropical Prodigy’ and it was inspired by my upcoming trip to Seychelles in December. My dad is from the Seychelles and we go almost every year.
I was feeling inspired after a busy year and wanted to capture the tropical beauty of the island. It just so happens that tropical prints are currently on trend this summer, so it was just meant to be!”
The collection has a tropical-safari feel that slowly progresses from khaki and white safari dresses to toned down tropical printed jumpsuits and off-the-shoulder day dresses and electric bold tropical printed evening wear ensembles.
Natasha got her degree in fashion design after school and was offered a job by a local designer for a well-known fashion brand. Her father, an entrepreneur himself, encouraged her to rather start her own label.
Natasha launched Tasha’s Closet in 2011, starting off supplying a few consignment stores, which then grew to supplying stores nationally on consignment in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
“Once I felt I had earned my stripes I started pulling out of consignment stores and wholesaling to boutiques. Now I stock boutiques around South Africa as well as elsewhere in Africa, including Namibia and Zimbabwe.”
