What started out as a ‘one-man-band’ has quickly become the marketing brainchild behind some of the hottest and newest properties on the North Coast.
Stefan and his team walked away with the coveted ‘best property marketing agency in South Africa’ award at the International Property Awards gala event in Dubai last month. The award was earned by achieving a first-class score on their submission as a result of the innovative marketing campaign conceptualised and implemented for the iconic Umhlanga Arch development, which saw ninety-percent of the residential opportunities within development sold without the need for a public release.
A humble Stefan insists the successful marketing of the Umhlanga Arch was an extension of the ground-breaking product that was visualised by the development team from the Multiply Group. “The developers had a clear vision of fusing together the most innovative development and lifestyle trends from around the world, which in turn gave us the freedom to conceptualise and implement a marketing strategy that utilised a number of elements that have not been seen within the South African property market to date.”
Remarkably, Rainmaker’s monumental achievement comes off the back of the company recently celebrating just five years in the property development marketing industry.
“I had a clear idea about what property developments needed in order to make their developments a success when I started Rainmaker Marketing. The vision was always to provide a niche offering to property developments and to a solution that fused together creative implementation with a very targeted sales-driven branding approach.”
Stefan completed a BComm marketing degree at Stellenbosch and a post-graduate diploma at UCT specialising in tourism management, before spending two years working as a game ranger at Mala Mala Game Reserve in Sabi Sands.
“My dad had a long history in property development and we spent many hours as youngsters driving in and amongst earth-moving equipment with him. On the property development side, it is exactly what I wanted to be a part of after leaving Mala Mala, where I learnt about customer service, relationship building and expectation management.”
Stefan joined his dad in his property development consultancy business and started to understand first-hand what goes into making a development a reality, and how many factors come into play. He then joined the eLan Group, which gave Stefan the fusion of marketing and property development insight, which in turn ignited his drive to start his own business.
Today his in-house team has grown over to 25 staff, nearly doubling every year for the last three years. “With a team of experts in their respected fields, our objective has always been to revolutionise development marketing within Southern Africa and we are extremely proud of this milestone” says Stefan.
Although Stefan and his team are currently involved in developments around South Africa and Mauritius, he is exceptionally passionate about the North Coast of KZN.
“Last year our clients achieved over R2.5 million in sales between Umhlanga and Salt Rock, which emphasises exactly how well the area is performing, how many great developments there are and how desirable the area has become.”
Stefan’s long term goal is to spread their footprint evenly across KZN, Gauteng, Western Cape and Mauritius where there are various different development opportunities.
“Winning the award has given us the opportunity to challenge other five-star award winners on the continent for the coveted title of the ‘best development marketing in Africa’”.
