How one hashtag can make a difference!

November is Men’s Health Awareness Month and FMI is supporting More Balls Than Most (MBTM), an organization that is dedicated to providing education and promoting awareness around the importance of early detection of prostate and testicular cancer.

FMI are inviting the public to join their efforts in raising funds for this amazing cause and to also stand a chance of winning R1000 for themselves. They simply need to visit FMI’s Facebook page and comment with their most courageous moment, using the hashtag #BeBallsy and an automatic donation will be made of R5 to MBTM for each unique #BeBallsy mention.

Prostate cancer is the leading cancer in males with more than 4000 men being diagnosed every year in South Africa. The message from MBTM is simple – get tested early, and encourage your family, friends and colleagues to do the same – you may be saving the life of someone you know.

Helping people is at the heart of everything FMI does, which is why they wanted to understand the real needs of people living with a critical illness like prostate or testicular cancer. This led to a number of survivors of various critical illnesses being interviewed, people who had experienced the impact firsthand, that ultimately culminated in FMI’s unique Critical Illness solution introduced last year.

“We found that all the people we spoke to had similar stories to tell – the impact of a critical illness was more than just financial. It affects the mind, the body and the soul and it affects the entire family,” says FMI CEO, Brad Toerien. “True to our philosophy, we developed a unique solution that offered a combination of income and lump sum benefits. In addition, informed by our research, we introduced CI Assist free of charge to aid clients and families with counselling and logistical household support. We’ve also partnered with Mediguide to bring the Medical Second Opinion service to all new FMI policyholders. This service provides an independent review of your diagnosis and treatment plan from a choice of more than 107 leading medical centers around the world.”
