BRIDAL: Popping the question
From hiding behind rocks on the beach to leopard crawling under bushes and pretending to be a fellow tourist on a game drive, photographers Chris and Emily Allan of PeppermintPix Photography have done it all. For the past five years the Ballito couple have been hiding away, capturing that magical moment when a nervous partner pops the question. “After secretly shooting the proposal, and after the champagne has been poured and the family hugged (if they are there too), we usually spend some time taking photos of the couple, showing off the ring and their beaming smiles,” says Emily, who also says until she started photographing proposals she had no idea how much planning, thought and budget went into creating these surprise moments. “The guys we have worked with have put so much time and thought into making it a magical moment. They plan everything from the location to champagne and her favourite flowers, the words he’ll say and us, the photographers!” Emily says it is always very touching to see how nervous men are before they propose, even when they’re certain she’ll say yes.
Although Emily says capturing the proposal on camera is not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea (and you have to be fairly sure she is going to say yes), the truth is that you’re hopefully only going to propose once in your life, so why not hire a professional to capture the moment. “When it’s all said and done, what better way to tell the world that she said yes than with some epic photographs!”
Tejiri & Kokesto
“For this proposal Tejiri had planned for everything to happen at the luxurious Karkloof Safari Villas and Spa. They enjoyed a full day of pampering and spa treatments before going for a game drive. We were ‘fellow tourists’ on the game drive, so Koketso didn’t suspect anything. After a beautiful walk to the bottom of the falls, Tejiri suddenly dropped to one knee and produced the most spectacular ring. A very surprised Koketso was shouting yes before he had even finished asking!
Valdo & Suzette
Valdo had been planning the details for this day for over a year. Suzette thought they were in Ballito to babysit a friend’s children, but when she arrived at their hotel room there was video on a laptop explaining that today was the day! But first she had to find him! Valdo had found a very unique rock on the beach in Ballito, which was a special place to Suzette and her family. So, she set off in search of him with a detailed map. He dropped to one knee the moment she saw him. From where we were hiding we could tell she had said yes because there was lots of smiling, kissing and champagne drinking!
