Winter style

It may be warming up, but the cooler days are still going to be around for a while and our wardrobes need to be kitted out accordingly! Umhlanga stylist and online boutique owner Pumla Mlondo shares her style secrets and winter must-haves with us.

Pumla is all about style, class and sophistication – and her love affair with fashion is clearly evident.

As a wife and mother of two, 36-year-old Pumla’s fashion style service and retail online boutique, Styled by Pumla, focusses on showing corporate woman how to wear every day retails clothing and make different fashion pieces work for them. “My focus is on helping corporate women find affordable clothing and advising them on how to wear and style the pieces I recommend.”

Pumla talks her client through their needs and style philosophy and she can then look through their wardrobe and take them on personal shopping session, depending on what services they are looking for. “Style is a form of self-expression…and it is art.”

Pumla’s top five winter must-haves:

The beret – I prefer red or caramel. Every season has its hat and this season is all about the beret. It’s oh-so-French and makes any look chic.

The boot – The boot that is in Vogue Magazine this winter is a pointed-toe, above or below the knee. My personal favourite is red to match a red beret!

The waterfall coat – A long waterfall jacket with a belt is this season’s hottest look. It comes in various materials. I love pairing it with a brooch to give it extra life and it can be worn with a dress, over pants, a pencil skirt, a jumpsuit or jeans.

The poncho – A poncho is such a fabulous alternative to a jersey or cardigan. It’s chic and adds a glamorous feel to an outfit. A poncho can be worn with a pencil skirt, pants, jeans or any number of bottoms.

Fishnet ankle socks – this item is a cost-effective way to make an outfit chic can be worn with stilettos, strap heels, block heels and even sneakers.
